Track development is not a fixed sequence. A track may begin with a groove, a melody, a vocal, an atmosphere, or even a single sound, but it will usually pass through four essential stages: groove, emotion, storytelling, and finalising. Understanding these stages helps producers make clearer creative decisions and focus on the music before becoming distracted by technical details.

Most producers choose their kick and bass before they have a track. In this article I want to share a different approach, a real example of rebuilding a track's drum foundation after the track was already finished.
